I Believe that Having a Goal or Dream in Life can Change a Person
I believe that having a goal or a dream in life can change a person. Everybody lives their life a different way and sometimes this may be good while other times it may be bad. Some people make good decisions in all aspects of their lives or just get lucky and live a care free almost perfect life. Others, however, make bad decisions or just get unlucky and end up with problems. These are the people who have the choice to keep going down the dark road they are on or make a change for the better and turn their lives around. This can be quite a simple task if you want to change, and having something to look forward to or a little motivation from a goal in life can really help in achieving success.
My older brother went through a rough point in his life during his first few years in high school. He had anger issues and just behavioral issues in general. He was never a bad kid, but he was making poor decisions, like not doing his school work, mouthing off to teachers and authoritative figures, and being disrespectful to his parents. I witnessed this first hand, as his brother, and wondered what went wrong. He was my brother and I hated to see him like this, angry and always getting in trouble. He was my older bother who I was closest to and I loved him so it hurt. I was also worried that I might end up like this when I got to high school and I did not want this to happen.
I decided to talk to my brother and find out what was wrong. However, he would not talk or open up to me so it was like talking to a brick wall when I tried to help him out. This occurred all the way until his junior year and then we figured out what was wrong.
My brother learned about the Marine Corps from some kids in school. He took it upon himself to research and find out what it was all about and this is when everything changed. He decided that he wanted to join the Marines. At this point in time he made a lot of new friends that were also joining and it is where he met his best friend, Eric Dunn. They began hanging out a lot and we started to see a big change in his behavior. He needed to pick up his grades to join and he did so. He became nicer to his teachers and everyone at home. We later learned that all he really needed was some good friends and a goal in life to turn everything around.
Having a goal in life ends up being a great thing. After learning about the Marine Corps my brother turned his life completely around and became a normal kid. He stayed out of trouble, for the most part, and became the brother I really needed in my life. Sometimes all it takes is some friends and a dream to turn things around and I learned this through the life of my own brother. I truly believe now that people can change regardless of what has happened in their lives. All it takes is a dream.
